Based on the common sizes for T-shirts, here are standard transfer dimensions in centimetres:

  • Adult T-Shirts (Small to Extra-Large):
    • Full front design: 25 to 30 cm wide (height proportional, around 30 to 35 cm).
    • Chest logo (centered): 8 to 13 cm wide.
    • Left chest design: 7.5 to 10 cm wide.
    • Full back design: 25 to 30 cm wide.
  • Youth T-Shirts:
    • Full front design: 18 to 23 cm wide.
    • Chest logo: 7 to 10 cm wide.
    • Back design: 18 to 23 cm wide.
  • Toddler T-Shirts:
    • Full front design: 13 to 18 cm wide.
    • Chest logo: 5 to 7 cm wide.
    • Back design: 13 to 18 cm wide.
  • Full Front Design: Aim for 25-30 cm wide and adjust the height accordingly. For example, if it’s a tall design, you might go for 30-35 cm in height.
  • Left Chest Design (Pocket Area): Keep this smaller, about 7.5 to 10 cm wide.
  • Back Design: Similar to the front, 25-30 cm wide, depending on the design.
  • Sleeve or Small Logos: For smaller areas like sleeves, aim for 5 to 7.5 cm wide.

Consider the overall shirt size in centimetres (which varies by brand) to ensure the transfer is proportionate:

  • For an adult large shirt, which might have a chest width of about 50-55 cm, a full front design of around 25-30 cm wide would look balanced.
  • For a youth medium shirt with a chest width of around 35-40 cm, a design of around 18-23 cm wide would be more suitable.
  • Lay the shirt flat and use a ruler or tape measure to get an idea of the available space.
  • If possible, print out or cut a paper template in the size you’re considering (in cm) and place it on the shirt to visualize the result.

If you do not have a tape measure, you can use A4 paper as a sizing guide.

  • A4 = 21 x 30cm
  • A5 = 14.85 x 21cm (A4 folded in 1/2)
  • A6 = 10.5 x 14.85cm (A5 folded in 1/2)
  • A7 = 10.5 x 7.4cm (A6 folded in 1/2)

A4 paper is also a good indicator of how the transfer will look when worn, by standing in front of a mirror and gauging whether the long or short side is close to the size you want.

Tip: Try cutting out the transfer size from paper first and placing it on the shirt for a preview.
