What Exactly is HTV?

Heat Transfer Vinyl is a specialty polymer designed to be permanent once

applied to fabric. To understand how it works, you have to look at it as a threelayer

sandwich.

First, there is the Carrier Sheet, which is the clear, shiny plastic top layer. This

isn’t part of the final design; it simply holds your letters and shapes in place so

they don’t shift. Underneath that is the Vinyl Layer itself—the colour or texture

you actually see.

Sizing is where the “art” of design meets the “physics” of the object. A design

that looks huge on your 27-inch monitor might look tiny on a 3XL hoodie—or

way too big for a toddler’s romper.

The “Sweet Spot” Method

Don’t just measure the whole shirt. Measure the Printable Area (the Sweet

Spot).

• For T-Shirts: A good rule of thumb for an adult chest print is roughly 25

cm to 30 cm wide. For a “pocket” logo, stick to 8 cm to 10 cm.

• For Mugs: Remember that a mug is a cylinder. If you make the design

too wide, you won’t be able to see the whole thing at once without rotating the

mug.
